State Championships Confirmed: NSW & Victoria

It’s the off season Hobie Sailors, but is it really?

The 50th Australian Hobie Cat National Championships is well and truly underway, with a jaw-dropping 90 boats entered over two Series.

Yes, you read that correctly – 90 boats.

This number is absolutely staggering. If you’re one of the Cowboys or Cowgirls that have already entered, we cannot wait to see you in less than 6 months. However, for those not yet entered and sitting on the fence – what the bloody hell are you waiting for, this is 50 years in the making!

This Nationals is going to be truly breathtaking, and if you’re a Hobie Sailor, or have ever been a Hobie Sailor, you cannot afford to miss out on this once in a lifetime event. So, postpone whatever plans you think you have, and start planning your trip to Jervis Bay for the greatest gathering of Hobie Cats to be seen in the Southern Hemisphere in over 50 years.

So, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s take a look at what’s happening on the Hobie Events Calendar.

The Bullets Regatta – 2022-23 NSW Hobie 16, 14-Turbo, Tiger & Wildcat State Championships: Round 1

Palm Beach Sailing Club: 19 – 20, November 2022

For a long, long time, Palm Beach Sailing Club has been a strong Hobie Club that has produced some of the greatest Hobie Sailors Australia has seen. So, the NSWHCA thought we’d support our mates at Palm Beach, and join in on their annual ‘Beware the Bullets Regatta’.

The Bullets Regatta has been an iconic regatta for many catamaran classes over the years, and a regular stop off for many Traveller’s Series. Therefore, it’s the perfect opportunity to hold the NSW Hobie 16 & 14-Turbo, Tiger & Wildcat State Championships on Pittwater.

The last time we were in Palm Beach was 2020, which saw 13 x Hobie 14s, 10 x Hobie 16s, 8 x Hobie 18s and 4 x Tigers/Wildcats. Additionally, in 2018, we saw 17 x Hobie 16s, 8 x Hobie 14s, 6 x Hobie 18s and 5 x Hobie Tigers & Wildcats turn up for the Hobie 14, Women & Youth State Championships.

Running hot off the Hobie 16 World Championships in Spain, and straight into the 50th Hobie Cat Nationals in Jervis Bay, this will be an awesome opportunity to get some quality time on the water in time in one of the most spectacular Hobie sailing destinations in NSW.

We look forward to seeing you in Pittwater this November.

2022-23 NSW Hobie 14, 18, 16 Women & Youth State Championships: Round 2

Wangi RSL Amateur Sailing Club: 4 – 5, February 2023

It’s been a long, long time since the Hobie Class has held a Championship Regatta on Lake Macquarie. So, we thought it was about time that we got back to Lake Mac, one of the premier sailing locations in NSW.

Home to some of the greatest sailors Australia has produced, Wangi RSL Amateur Sailing Club has a very deep history within the Hobie Class, with many of the great Hobie 14 sailors hitting the water for the first in the water that surrounds Wangi Point.

Taking place over the first weekend in February, the Wangi RSL ASC committee has also given us Hobie Sailors the opportunity to join in on the Friday evening twilight racing, starting from 1700hrs. This will be an awesome opportunity to get some quality time on the Lake, making the most of the late sea-breeze the Wind Gods have already promised.

More information will be coming in the months to come.

2023 Victorian Hobie Cat State Championships

Port Melbourne Yacht Club: 11-13, March 2023

The last time the Hobie Cat Association of Victoria raced out of Port Melbourne Yacht was back in 2018, when the sun was shining and the breeze was blowing blissfully over a brisk Port Phillip Bay,

Details regarding NOR, SI’s and online entry will be made available early 2023. To all those a bit further away, this will be a perfect opportunity to fly into the VIC capital for a much needed getaway with the Hobie Family.

Team VIC hopes to see many of you there!
