Port Stephens turned on the best weather possible with 2 days of classic Nor-easters. A fleet of 47 Hobies enjoyed this blue water paradise with some incredibly close racing, with the result in most classes going down to the last race. The NSW H16 guys dropped the ball and let a queenslander take the trophy home (well done Branchy & Hannah), Gilby and new crew Chilli edged out the 18s, Kerrie and Andrew topped the Tigers (pink boats do go fast!) and while Pete and Bailey Skewes just won through in the Wildcats, Old school Hobie sailor Mark Griffiths, in only his second regatta on a wildcat demonstrated that he may be the boat to beat in the upcoming nationals – if Griff & Kevlar/Mal are that quick now, more time on the boat will make them very hard to beat.
It is also worth noting that age seems to be an advantage in the 16 fleet, with the first 6 boats in the open 16s taken by masters and grand masters!
